Buffalo Woods state park, Fox Lake in Canada, Logan is fishing when two Mounties, Sgt. Doolin and Morris. Sgt. Doolin ask Logan why he has no cloths, no tent and no fire. Logan tells Doolin he travels light. Morris shows Logan a wanted flyer. Doolin and Morris are looking for a fugitive that escaped his murder trial, then murdered the Golightlys family, then kidnapped the family's youngest daughter named Athabasca Ike. Ike was last seen heading towards Logan's direction, and they warn Logan to stay out of the way. The wind shifts, Logan catches the scent of Ike and the girl. Logan joins Doolin and Morris to track Ike down. Doolin wants to catch Ike before dark, since that’s when the Hunter in Darkness roams around the woods. Morris argues that it is a legend, but Doolin tells Morris that it is real and he shot it once, tracked its blood trail, but the trail stopped as if it healed itself. so it escaped.

They head up the mountain in their jeep. Ike sees them coming and with a sniper rifle, Ike shots Morris, the bullet goes through Morris's chest, through Logan's leg, and hits the jeep's fuel tank. The jeep crashes into a hillside. Logan grabs Doolin and barely gets out before the jeep explodes. Doolin notices Logan's leg has healed. Logan puts on his Wolverine outfit and the two go searching for Ike. Night falls, Logan is attacked by the Hunter in Darkness. Doolin turns on his flashlight to get a clear shot. Ike sees the light. Wolverine yells at Ike "kill the light", but its too late. Ike shoots Doolin in the chest. Hunter in Darkness claws at Wolverine, exposing Wolverines guts. Wolverine hold his guts in, while his healing factor kicks in.

Doolin wounded on the ground remembers a man from his past. In Germany, world war II, after Para shooting into Normandy, Doolin was stuck in a tree and light a match to see in the dark, Doolin’s corporal a tree over yells "kill the light", but it was to late , the Nazis came running. Doolin's corporal charged and killed the Nazis platoon with just a knife. Doolin tries to remember the name of the corporal.

The Hunter in Darkness tastes Logan's blood on its claws, it remembered Logan had once saved it from a bear trap in the Canadian wilderness after Logan escaped the Weapon x project. The Hunter in Darkness wanders off in search for a victim.

Wolverine runs up the hill to get Ike. Doolin watches Wolverine run off, and notices Wolverine's posture, Doolin realizes that it was not the Hunter in Darkness that Doolin shot all those years ago, it was Wolverine. Doolin wonders how Wolverine could be involved in his life all these times but he hasn't aged. The girl escapes from Ike by kicking his gun out of his hands, Logan grabs and saves the girl, she screams. Ike thinks the Hunter got her. Ike lights up his lighter to look for his rifle, but the Hunter in Darkness finds him, tears him to shreds. Doolin's memories flashes before him and he remembers his corporal's name and yells out "Logan" and dies. Wolverine looks over at Doolin and wonders how Doolin knew his real name.
